Community course
The phlebotomy and EKG seminar does not consist of book work or written exam, rather we collaborate with a vendor named Medical2, Inc. Medical2 provides an intense 8-hour workshop teaching the skills needed to pass the exam. Before sessions, all participants will be taught the proper handling and concepts of the procedure to be performed. Students prove competency on Medical2 specifically designed mannequins and live draws. The mannequins simulate the human antecubital region (where blood is drawn) as accurately as possible, all while providing a simulated blood return for better understanding and reinforcement of the procedure for the participant. Upon successful completion of the workshop, the participant will receive manuals by email and a national certification by mail. The certificate is available to following Monday after the course. Course included needle/syringe draws, evacuated systems, finger sticks, pediatrics, heel sticks, blood smears, butterfly needles, and to set-up and perform EKGs (Note** EKG interpretation is not taught in this course).

Based on what an EKG shows, a healthcare provider may be able to treat a potential life threatening arrythmia and limit dame to the patient and/or heart muscle. SIEMT EKG courses can be tailoredĀ for both simply performing EKGs as well as reading and interpreting the rhythms.
